Carbon Footprint Tracking

We all have a carbon footprint. Whether it’s making a cup of coffee, driving a car or even turning on a light, everyday actions lead to the release of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) , including carbon dioxide (CO2e), into the atmosphere.

We can all do more to protect the planet by reducing our carbon footprint. Measuring and understanding the impact is the first step towards managing it.

Tracking Carbon Footprint

Gemline is working with a global leader in impact measurement technology to track the carbon emissions from a product over its lifecycle, from “cradle-to-gate.”

Greenhouse gas emissions are tracked from raw material sourcing through to distribution to Gemline and includes product decoration. It is measured in kilograms of CO2e.

Making Informed Decisions

In 2024, Gemline began tracking carbon footprint at the product level as part of our commitment to managing our Scope 3 emissions. Not only will this provide transparency to customers so they can make more informed buying decisions, but we will also use this data to guide our future efforts to minimize carbon emissions throughout the product lifecycle.

What does the number mean?

Knowing a product’s carbon footprint is important, but what does it actually mean? To help you understand carbon footprinting, here are a few estimations of what 1 and 5 kg of CO2e is equivalent to in everyday activities.

Why is the Carbon Footprint of a product important?

The changing climate has many impacts on the environment and society. Reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions across all sectors can help mitigate these effects. By providing carbon footprint information on our products, we can help you and your customers make decisions that consider more than just price and product features.

Being a responsible steward of the planet is a core pillar of our betterway® program. We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions by 10% annually.

Implementing product-level carbon footprint tracking is an important step in helping us better understand and manage our Scope 3 emissions, and will be used to guide our future efforts to minimize carbon emissions throughout the product lifecycle.
